well, only the auditions part and the choosing of the teams. basically, people brought their terrible food with them as demonstrations of their bad cooking. that got winnowed down to 24 people, who all had to cook something.
one woman made meatloaf with sweet potatoes. it was like candied meat.
one woman described how her four kids cry every time she cooks something.
a guy boiled a whole chicken, then poured red sauce over it, and then topped it with two slices of swiss cheese. he served this on a plate of kale.
a guy made fried rice, which was just rice and egg.
luckily, they are learning something -- and jeffrey steingarten will be in the finale -- but overall, there is far less yelling than i am used to in a traditional kitchen.
Re: worst cook in america is awesome.
I was disappointed. I thought they would actually teach them to cook - you know, start slow, build some skills, have a triumphant finale. But no - they're all doing crap that's way too complicated for a bad home cook right off the bat. They all get frustrated, and I don't want to watch.
Though I may catch the finale, if you can promise me there will be evil women there for Steingarten to yell at. That's always the best part of Iron Chef, too.
I agree on the teaching them too much at once.
I love the ones that poured canned soup in a pot and called it their meal. And the girl that added pineapple for crunch.
they only have ten days; they can't start slow.
i do think the editing is showing that they are taking some time with these people and showing them how to do important things -- sweating, sauteing, etc. they clearly cut out the part about the importance of a clean serving plate, but no big deal. they do emphasize the importance of tasting, which i like.
but needs more yelling!
