Re: Confession

  • You are brave! I wouldn't post my GL confessions here. Notice the plural...

Enjoy your US grown grapefruit : )

  • LOL. Even the most GL foodies have weaknesses for non-local foods.  Mine is pineapple.  Especially from the buffet at Whole Foods, they have these huge juicy rings that are just delicious!

My confession: I judge people that eat crappy food.  My office mate had a Lean Cuisine elbow macaroni & pasta sauce thingee for lunch yesterday, while I had homemade Portabello Mushroom Parmigiana using Organic Valley cheese, organic pasta sauce, and local fresh spaghetti from the Farmer's Market.  Yes, I looked down my nose at her lunch Surprise

  • I've just been so good about maintaining a strictly local diet, but UGH I feel so sluggish eating so much starch and soup. I am taking the remains home to compost though!

Ugh, Lean Cuisines are so yucky I can't understand how anyone eats them. And they are so dinky! I'd starve!! Your lunch sounds much better! In addition to my grapefruit, I have curried chicken salad with dried cranberries on yummy bread with spinach.

  • You won't hear me judging you.  I'm pretty sure I won't ever find local Minnesota grapefruit.  I loooove it and cannot imagine not having it.

  • Mmm!  I have a grapefruit tree in my backyard, and I think the fruit will be ripe in another month or so.  Now we just have to figure out 1) where you can buy one of those citrus-picking poles (and how to get it home in our sedan!) and 2) what to do with all of the grapefruit!  I'll probably have DH take some to work...it might be a good idea to start building up some good produce karma in case any of his co-workers garden!

If you could e-mail grapefruit, the GL Nesties would be first on my list!

Ooooh, I'm so jealous of you!  Can you can grapefruit?  I know you can buy jars of it mixed with oranges in some grocery stores.

  • Sure! You can can (lol) anything!

I miss growing citrus. I think you can get the picker with the basket on the stick at any hardware store really.

I had a Christmas orange and mimosas on Christmas, but otherwise haven't had citrus in almost a year!!

  • Supergreen....I teach nutrition and I totally judge ppl based on the foods they eat. I was becoming "that girl" at the lunch room in my school with the faculty so I had to stop! (no one said anything..I just could feel myself getting very judgemental and saying so!)

    Glad I am not alone!

  • Beloved, I am from California and my family grows various types of citrus, I know you could get that picker basket thing at orchard supply, fruit growers supply, or probably most hardware stores.  The one we had at home was basically on a pole the size of a broom handle, so it should fit ok in your car.  You may just need a tall ladder though!

Oh, I couldn't handle that!  We're right next to California, so it's easier for me to justify OJ.

  • if you come visit me you can pick your own grapefruit from the tree in my backyard.  they're HUGE!
  • ooo that Christmas orange was a gateway fruit! What's next, Alisha, key limes????
