I am such an effing idiot

Ben was playing in his crib and I let him stand up, to show Larry like he was doing this morning. ?He then proceeded to slam his mouth on the crib and made his top lip bleed. ?He freaked for about 30 seconds and then was fine and laughing, but I am still a wreck. ?What the hell was I thinking?!?

I feel like the worst mom in the world.?image

  • If you are the worst mom in the world for that, there is no title that would describe my horrifying parenting, LOL!!

But I should know better, Laura. ?He is a jumper and too little to stand like that. ?Remember, I'm the paranoid mom who didn't want to take him on the 5 mph train (which, btw, we never wound up riding as it didn't fit in our schedule)...I just feel so bad- my job is to protect him and I contributed to him hurting himself...

PS- You are a great mom!! : )?

  • Jeanette,

Kids will get hurt its all a part of growing up.  Don't beat yourself up!  DH makes Owen stand like that all the time.  He fell once too, he cried, he got over it.  You are a great mom!!!  I mean it!

  • Stuff like this is going to happen a million more times...... try not to beat yourself up over it or when he gets to be a toddler you will be feeling that way daily!  It's not like you wanted him to get hurt.....in some ways this is how they learn what they should and should not do.

And you might want to ask Caroline how great of a mom I am after one of the times she has taken a tumble off of the changing table!  I'm not sure that she would agree with you!

  • I know you want to do everything you possibly can to protect Ben - but as babies become more independent, and start trying new things, they are GOING to get bumps, scrapes and bruises. I would have done the same thing, as I definitely would want to show DH if our baby started standing... just wait until he starts walking!!! As Laura said, it's almost as if these little mishaps are a way of teaching them what NOT to do! Sort of like part of the learning process. You can't keep them in a padded room when those legs start working. hehe... You're doing great, Jeanette! I'm sure Ben won't hold it against ya :)
  • omg J!

youre not and effing idiot!  do you have any idea how many times they boys did something like that?  or fell into the coffee able? or tv stand? just last week tony hit the side rail of my bed. he still has the bruise on his little noggin.....

it cant be prevented most of the time no matter how hard you try. i can guarantee you that it will happen again and that there will be other bleedings and bumps and bruises.  its just a part of growing up.  =)

  • Don't worry, kid fall down all the time, it doesn't make you a bad mom. You are a great mom!
  • No, you're not.  Kids fall and hurt themselves alllll the time.  It could have happened to any one of us.  Cut yourself some slack.  It's ok to feel badly but you certainly aren't a terrible parent!
  • You are not a bad mom! He is going to fall down and hurt himself every now and then especially as he gets more mobile. Don't be so hard on yourself
  • Thanks, everyone. ?I still feel pretty bad about it, but your kind words helped. ?I was ok until Larry said, "Hon, there's blood on your shirt."- then I freaked. ?I had given him some Motrin anyway, as his teeth are pushing through more and bugging him, so I think that helped. ?He's his happy little self today and I have a few more gray hairs... : ) ?
