So, DH and I checked out the house last night in Westborough. It's been winterized so it was a quick tour for me, but of course MH had to check out every nook and cranny and talk to our realtor.
BUT
the overall impression was: a LOT of work needed but definitely had potential. The layout was very weird because it was built in 1949 as a one floor home, and then another floor was added and the stairs were placed in the most obtrusive place. The odd thing was that the closet and bathroom walls were the nicest thing in the whole place. The closet was cedar lined and the bathroom had one wall of cedar planking. Definitely will have to salvage those.
It's not off the table for us yet, but something we will discuss. It would be a HUGE project for us but the location couldn't be better. Huge backyard, with lake front views and the end of a quiet dead end street.
We'll have to see!
Re: House Review
Congrats on checking out the house. It sounds great. You said in a previous post you wanted a fixer upper right? Is it just in need of too much work?? I always think of that movie the Money Pit and how romantic it was. How lame am I, hahaha?
Good luck with whatever decision you guys make. Keep us posted!
Exactly, it might just be too much for us to handle right now. But DH is getting antsy to have a project and I'm certainly antsy to start decorating - I've been doing little projects around the apartment; thankfully MH thinks it's cute.
We'll just have to see if the price is right, too. It's priced really well for the area and our realtor says that with the comps in the area, we could easily renovate and re-sell for at least $50,000 more than what we buy it for.
