I'm so pissed. I ran to the post office and when I came home the power was off. I called to report it just in case I was the only person on my block that was home in the middle of the day, but they told me that I had been turned off due to lack of payment. Sure enough, I found the bill in my "paid" stack. I was thinking that the auto-pay had kicked in for that, but it hadn't. They say they left phone messages and put an orange flag on my door, but I know the orange flag never showed up and the number they had on file was H's cell phone that he never uses.
The bill was less than two freaking weeks late. And it was for $45. I had to pay a $50 fine and I'm on a "list" of problem customers now. And my credit rating is probably trashed to hell. Did I mention that I'm pissed?
Re: I'm one of those people now
Ugh...What azzholes!!
I'm really surprised that they would cut you off when it's only a couple of weeks late. Especially during winter. Double especially during a nasty cold snap--albeit one that's ending.
It just seems like an overreaction on their part. WTH?
It's crazy how small their window to pay is. I haven't even received the next bill yet. There is always a week or less from the time the bill arrives to the time it is due. Then they cut you off 10 days later! They don't play!
In St. Louis I think you can go a few months without paying before you get cut off, at least in the winter.

Wow. that seems ridiculous. (1) because you're long-standing customers who always pay your bill (I'm assuming) (2) because it was for one month (I'm assuming) and (3) because they know they're lying about the orange flag.
I'd call and bitchto a manager, have them look into my account history, and take me off the problem list.
I agree, I would call back, ask for a manager and explain that you normally pay on time, this was obviously a one time occurrence, etc.
Also, was your auto pay set up through your bank or your power companies website? I would call whoever it was set up through and see what the situation is with that as well.
p.s. "one of those people"? is that some racial slur?!
If I'm on auto-pay now, I shouldn't have to worry about what being on "the list" means because it shouldn't ever happen again. But if it was set-up through them and if I had read the fine print I would have seen that it wouldn't kick in for two months. And every other time I've set up auto-pay for something I've watched like a hawk to make sure that it hit my bank account, but I didn't this time.
I'm going to blame it all on DH. We need to buy a new computer, so I haven't entered any financial stuff into the old computer since mid-December thinking that I'll just get all caught up once we have a new computer. If I had done that I would have noticed that it hadn't been paid. And...it was his cell phone they were calling. Really, I should make him sleep in the garage for a week.

Yes. If you want to talk more about it, I'll be at Wal-Mart buying sweats and juicy fruit.
