**fly or other foodie chefs** gyros?

I got it in my head that I want to make gyros at home.  I've got the pitas, veggies, and tzatziki covered, but all I have for meat is skirt steak. Do you think that would work?  Or would it be too tough?

Re: **fly or other foodie chefs** gyros?

  • if you marinate the skirt steak before you grill it or whatever, it won't be too tough!
  • oh and slice it against the grain... it'll be more tender that way
  • Thanks, great tips!  Now I just need to figure out how to marinate it...
  • i think you can keep it simple. i little olive oil, salt & pepper, minced garlic, oregano.
  • Sweet, I have all that stuff.  Thanks!
  • now i want a gyro...

LOL!  Well, I may not end up making them until tomorrow night or this weekend.  DH has a huge test run going with a client this week and they keep calling him right around 5:30 for help.  So annoying, but I'll take it if it means a big sale for him.

let me know how it goes!  did you make the tzatziki or did you buy it?  I haven't seen it at HEB but, then again, I haven't really been looking for it either.

Dude, I totally bought the tzatziki. ::hangs head::  I got it at the HEB at Parmer and McNeil in the area where you find hummus and fancy cheeses. I know it's easy to make, but it was even easier to buy!

no flames from me!  there are certain things that are not worth making, IMHO.

perfect, I'll have to keep my eyes open for it next time I go to HEB!
