thirties style favours

A co-worker of mine is getting married this summer in a small (15-20people) wedding in a 30's gangster/bottlegger/flappers theme. She is having trouble coming up with favour ideas for her geusts she wants it to be something in her theme but can't think of anything.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Re: thirties style favours

  • Betty Boop was big in the 30s, correct?

Or, what about a cd favor with big band/swing music? Or what about a soda fountain bar, in lieu of favors?

  • Bootlegger theme - little bathtubs with nip bottles of gin in it. Bathtub Gin.
  • What about a little flask?  I'm sure they'd be $$, but with a small wedding maybe it would be manageable.  You could put a cute little tag on it about prohibition or the bathtub gin.  It would be something people would use in the future too! Smile
  • Similar to what TT suggested...I would repackage booze into little bottles with handwritten labels and a cork stopper to make it look homemade (or she could really whip up a batch in her bathtub).

  • Sounds like fun! Some thoughts off the top of my head:

    • Going with the bootlegger theme, either small bottles of gin or little flasks
    • Cigars for the men, fans (maybe feathered ones) for the ladies
    • DVDs of silent films (I've seen these before in the $1 bin at Target)
    • Small items with Art Deco-style packaging (with a quick google search, I found this link with some fab examples: http://www.polyvore.com/art_deco_nouveau_packaging/set?id=4322197)

Also, just as a clarification, flappers and bootleggers are associated more with the 1920s. (Prohibition ended in 1933). The Art Deco style was popular from the mid-20s through the 40s, so it would work whether the wedding was 20s themed or 30s themed.

HTH! Sounds like a fun wedding!

  • My daughter had a 30s theme at her wedding.  We gave out the little chocolate liqueur bottle candies.  We also made long, knotted bead necklaces, that we used as part of the table decor (draped around the wine glasses), because they looked pretty, but hoped that someone might think they were fun and wear them.  I didn't notice that night, but in the pictures taken of each table, almost every guest (male and female) had them on.

I know we had other stuff, but I can't remember right now.Hmm

Something fun that we did at the rehearsal dinner, was make up bags with candy that was popular at that time, and this book. It was a better looking copy though...it was red and black and was less expensive.
