...or leased or whatever.
Sounds like lots of us have had cars we've loved. What's been your favorite?
I've only owned two cars, the first was a Civic that I bought used and it turned out to be a bit of a lemon. I loved it at first but then it started having major problems--I had to have the transmission replaced TWICE (and it was an automatic!) and there was some electrical recall issue that had never been taken care of that caused the car to completely short out and turn off at random, most notably when I was doing 80mph down 101 in CA one day. That sucked.
After that I upgraded to my current love, my Audi A4. I love the way it drives, that it's AWD, and that it's been pretty reliable so far. We got a really good certified used deal on it too (yes, getting a deal on something does make me enjoy it more
).

Re: s/o: Favorite car you've owned
My favorite is my current 2007 Honda Civic. This is the only one I've owned myself.
The Elantra is a close 2nd. My parents bought it when I was going into my senior year at college and needed a car to get to the lab I was doing my senior thesis in. Then I drove it after college until I bought the Civic. Now my brother drives it.
I've driven my mom's Explorer, which I liked at first but after driving cars for so long now I find it so bumpy. In HS I drove my mom's Dodge Carvan, lol. Obviously I liked the Explorer better than the van.
The first car I ever bought was a civic. I had it for 8 years and loved it. I leased a Volvo XC70 for 2 years and it was OK. I now have a Volvo S60 AWD and LOVE it. It really is a lot of fun to drive.
I love Hondas...my parents drive them too. I have never owned a new one though...I always get a used and drive it into the ground. They last forever or at least until my Dad crashes and totals them like my last one (he's ok by the way, thank God). Before the one I have now (a 98 CRV, which is great for taking camping/road trips and having a dog), I had an 89 Prelude which was wicked pissa. It was white and had those headlights that open and close like eyes. That was my favorite feature! But not the leaking sun roof and how low to the ground it was...every pot hole felt like my butt fell off! But I love my car now...every car I get seems to get better (probably because they get newer lol).
Well, welcome back to the boards! The changes have almost all been good ones, IMHO. I've been around a long time (2005 bride) and the last overhaul they did to the site actually improved it, though there are still plenty of little glitches (wouldn't be the Nest w/o them
).
I've had 2 cars and loved them both. My 1995 Pontiac Sunfire was a good car, and fun to drive, but like most of the original Sunfires, had some head gasket issues. It was good in the winter when I lived in NH, always started on the super cold days (the one day it didn't start was after it didn't get above -10 for a week, and then one day it was up to +5, and *that's* when it wouldn't start). I put 90K miles on it and then got...
my 2004 Pontiac Vibe. The Vibe was mentioned on the 10 worst cars of the 2000s (not on the list, but mentioned as almost one of the 10 worst), and I don't get why. *knock on wood* I haven't had any problems with this car, aside from having really bad luck with tires and windshields- but that's not the car's fault. it's comfy, it drives well, it's not weird looking. I can't figure it out. The mileage is decent, even with AWD I still get usually 28mpg.
DH is in the market for a new car, and he's been happy with his Saturn, so he has no idea what to do now that there is no saturn. Mom and I are trying to push a Volvo, and I'm also kind of trying to push a Prius- but he says Priuses are too expensive. (I think a Prius would be what my fully-loaded Vibe cost- that's not *too* expensive, that's normal car price!) We're having trouble finding a car that he can accept and I feel comfortable for our theoretical children. Unfortunately, he grew up in a family that valued low cost over safety in cars.
When I was younger I had a 1984 Mazda RX-7 2-seater in gunmetal gray- and there was not a person in my tiny redneck town that did not salivate over my car. I absolutely loved it. As a girl in high school, I got major points for driving a stick, and the car was so unique. Eventually we had to give it up because it had a problem with the igniters, and we couldn't find anywhere to replace them since I lived in the STICKS and the RX-7 had a rotary engine.
I had a love/hate relationship with a 1995 Ford Escort (baseline model) that ended when I spun across 4 lanes of rush hour traffic and landed on the side of the highway with about 3 other cars... Luckily I was not injured and had a fantastic insurance company.
Now I have an 06 Corolla, and I LOVE it. I get about 38 mpg, and it's got just enough "get up and go" for me to zip around in traffic. I feel really safe in it, and it really makes driving in large cities easy because it's so small. And yet I can fit so much crap in it hahaha. FI and I decided that we wouldn't buy a car that would not be suitable for our future children. I also paid about 5k less than it was worth because it was the end of the month and the dealership was desperate for a sale, and I had been car shopping ALL DAY. My current car is definitely the best car I've owned, and the only way I would give it up would be if something happened to it (like an accident, heaven forbid), and I replaced it with a newer model, or if we outgrow it one day and upgrade to the Lexus I've had my eyes on
Thanks so much Rock!
