Anyone make their own garden journal?

We journal online but I'd like something a bit more portable that I can record more information in.

I've really not found anything on the market that seems to fit what I want.  I don't want to get too detailed with weekly information, growth charts, etc.  But something that lets me catalog things like planting time, time to fruit, amount of harvest, etc. for veggies and things like date of spring emergence, date of bloom, etc. for our perennials would be great.

Anyone find something or make something like that?

Re: Anyone make their own garden journal?

  • I just used a notebook with graph paper (so I could do my garden plans in it) and recorded those things.  Then, I just used it like a diary & wrote important info in that style.

I added pockets in the back to keep the seeds I used that year.

For the data you want to record, I would, on the first few pages of the notebook, write in:

    Planting dates

    Tomatoes
    Lettuce
    Marigolds
    etc.

    Time to Fruit

    Tomatoes
    Lettuce
    Marigolds
    etc.

    etc, etc.

For the amount of harvest, I would draw up a chart with veg as the rows & harvest numbers on the top.  Then, in the boxes, you'd put the lbs of tomatoes (for example) and date of that harvest.  So you could, at a glance, see how many harvests you had (columns) for each veg.

  • I use a hardcover artist's sketchbook.  It has blank pages and I can put whatever I want in it.  You can get them at craft or artist supply stores.
