Do you guys plan out your meals? If so how far in advance and how often do you stick to it?
Re: Meal Planning
I try to buy the supplies for at least 3-4 home cooked meals a week (we have some weekly standards), at least 2 nights the hubs works late so I feed the kids left-overs or something quick, and on sunday's we go to MIL's.
tonight i made baked bbq chicken breast w/ roasted red potatoes, the kids love it and I can prep it ahead of time and just stick it in the oven when i get home. tonight I ran on the treadmill for 30 min, by the time I was done, dinner was done.
We usually do a full week (often Sunday-Saturday), but sometimes will do a few days more.
When we're trying to eat well, we stick to it very closely (maybe 1 night we'll have something else); otherwise, it's stuck to very closely. Of course, I've found that I have to plan meals we LIKE or we'll veer quickly. I also have to plan in easy nights, or nights we pick something up, eat out, etc.
Most weeks we do. I like to sit down on Sunday, plan out the week (usually I plan 5 meals because generally we can eat leftovers at least one or two nights because I cook pretty big portions), then go to the store. I prefer to only go to the store once a week because that cuts down on our grocery bill a lot. When I used to decide while sitting at work what we were going to eat that night, I would end up buying a bunch of unneeded things.
Anyway, most weeks I plan out the week of meals on that Sunday. Otherwise, I end up trying to throw together food from what we have in our freezer and cabinets. In fact, I haven't done a really "big" grocery trip yet this year (just a couple of times for staples like milk, eggs, bread and some fresh veggies).
