What do you keep your compost in before taking to the bin?

My bin is downstairs and then out in the back yard. Not very convenient for a quick run. I'd like something I can keep our scraps and coffee and stuff in for the kitchen that doesn't get gross and that I can dump every 3 days or so and then wash. Any suggestions?

I'm new to all this but I've been keeping it in a rubbermaid container that sits on my countertop.  I empty it every 1 or 2 days.  I was thinking of buying a countertop compost container but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Ditto, except we use our old yogurt containers LOL.

I just put the scraps in a small mixing bowl as we make them, then empty it every day (often in the morning).  In the summer, though, it's after every meal prep.  Doesn't sound like that's what you are looking for, though...

Cookie jar with tight-fitting lid (pic in blog) and then old yogurt containers if that fills up. I usually only compost 1 day per week.

This compost crock from Gardener's Supply.  I wanted something pretty with a charcoal filter.  We live in a small TH with a dog and cat so the house is smelly already :-)

I have a stainless steel pail for compost similar to above.  For xmas I bought my friend a nice little ceramic one (same style as above). I found it at TJ Max for cheap. ;-)

the container store has a handful of countertop compost containers.  i got this bamboo one for xmas.  before that, on old dog treats jar.  but the seal on that finally fell apart and it stunk to high heaven!!

SMART!  I've been using a plastic bag that hangs on the kitchen door handle.  It's great for bigger stuff like cut flowers.
