Hoping for help from you girls!!!!

My husband and I are considering moving to the Austin area, maybe around Round Rock.  I am hoping to start attending UT in the fall.  Any tips on where to or not to live as far as apartments?  We are looking for fairly cheap, as I may not be able to work while in school and my husband will just have to take whatever jobs are available when we first move, but I am also trying to avoid living in a trashy place! TIA!

  • There are lots of nice apartments in north Austin near RR. particularly down Parmer in the mcneil area and down mcneil, then further down parmer near 360. If you are avoiding $$ I would stay away from central and go as far north and/or west as possible. Good lick with your potential move!! I'm a UT alum that loved Austin and now refuses to leave!
  • We live in Pflugerville (just south of Round Rock, still north of downtown and UT) in apartments called Alexan Swenson Farms.  They are super nice apartments, still fairly new (only 2 years old), and we love it here.  We have lived here for 19 months now.  I don't know what the going rate is now and I know we got a discount when we renewed our lease but we have a 1 bedroom, 930 sq. ft., and pay $720.  We paid $787 when we first moved in. They have bigger apts available for a good price too.

  • We moved here 3 years ago never being in Austin before.  We didn't get an apartment north because it seemed farther away from DT to us.  We got an apartment south (The Park at Monterey Oaks... it is managed by Lincoln Properties) and we lived there for 2 years.  It is in a GREAT location.  We got a 1 bedroom for about $750 a month, and we got that knowing I may not have a job right away.  Our 2nd year we got a 2 bedroom.  It is right by the access to Mopac/Loop 1 and it takes no more than 10 minutes in no traffic to get DT.  You are right by William Cannon which has whatever you need... grocery stores, drugstores, auto shops, fast food, gas stations, etc.  It is super close to the mall and not that far from I-35.  I worked downtown when we first moved here, right by UT and in rush hour traffic it took about 30 minutes to get to work.  Just wanted to give you an option that was really nice, affordable and close to everything.  Smile
  • Try to make sure what you find in on a UT Shuttle Route or at least on the Bus Route. Parking at UT is damn near impossible and you could use that valuable time in traffic studying instead of cursing at other drivers ;)

I went to UT but I'm an old lady now so I have no idea what apartments are great or not anymore.

  • We're renting a townhouse (4-plex) off of Metric between Braker and Parmer. 2 story, around 1100 sq ft, 2 bedroom, 2 bath, small loft (which we've made into an office). Dunno what the going rate is now, but we got it for $725/mo this past August. $600 deposit, $300 pet deposit. Gas & electric are usually under $150/mo. If you're interested, email me, and I'll get you more info. secondstar2theright [at] gmail [dot] com

Do you mind emailing me the name of your place?  jessicaozuna@gmail.com.  Your location and price sounds awesome! I'm trying to convince my sister to move here.  If you don't want to, I totallly understand.
