XP: Family Haiti update plus plea for rescue relief

(XPed on the baby board)

As a few of you might know, my sister's husband is Haitian and much of his family still lives there.  As you can imagine, everyone was worried sick much of this week.  We recently got some good news about the family and though it is hopeful, it still paints a dark picture of the work ahead, knowing that the life that they knew there will probably never be the same in their lifetime.

Please continue to send donations of whatever you can to help relief efforts.  I'm so thankful that there are people like MC's cousin that are able to get down there now and try to help.  I think my sister's ILs are lucky in that they have some resources to keep them safe for now but so many others do not have that option.

Here's a C&P of my sister's email update:

Hey Friends,

First of all, thanks to everyone for your thoughts as news of the earthquake in Haiti broke out.  T and I greatly appreciate your concern, especially as things have been tense the past couple days as we?ve just been waitng for news.

I?m so happy to be able to report that we JUST heard form T?s dad this morning!  He is fine, and so is T?s uncle and grandmother in Port-au-Prince.  It definitely wasn?t easy, and apparently T?s gardener had to pull out and carry his grandmother to safety (ironic, since his grandmother is afraid of the gardner and has always believed he was out to get her.)  T?s aunt worked in the CitiBank building that collapsed and was just pulled out of the rubble early this morning, finally.  His family?s house was set atop one of the bigger hills outside of Port-au-Prince, and we think it?s been completely destroyed.

Obviously, in all of Haiti the rebuilding process hasn?t started yet and it will mostly likely be weeks?months?until anything is able to be rebuilt.  Now that we know T?s family is safe, we turn our concern to them and their friends as they constantly seek stable shelter and a place to even sleep.  According to T?s dad, the damage is even more astronomical than we may be seeing, mainly because the rubble has nowhere to go, and because there is no one in the country able to even understand how a plan to rebuild anything is possible at this point.  We continue to advocate for sending any donations or help towards the various funds that are being sent as aid, and thank anyone who has already contributed.

Again, thanks so much for thinking of us?I just wanted to send you an update.
