DH is a truck driver and amatuer radio operator and has the computer set up to run a scanner and cb radio. One night a couple months ago I was sitting in the bedroom alone (DH is only home on weekends) and this sound came over the speakers. I didn't have the tv on and the computer was off. Thank goodness DH called within seconds of me hearing it. He laughed at me for freaking out. He said sometimes when semis go by the house (we live on a highway) their cb's will occasionally come across our speakers. I have never head of this before. It literally made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. It just happened again this morning about an hour ago. At least I knew what was up this time. But I still find it weird. What do you think?
Re: Ever heard of this?
You said he called within seconds of you hearing it? I think I might know what it is, assuming he called on your cell phone.
Cell phone signals can interfere with the signals in speaker wire, causing a buzzing noise in the speakers. You can try it yourself by wrapping the speaker wire around your phone, turning the volume way up (with nothing else on to drown out the noise), and sending yourself a text or giving yourself a call. If it makes the same noise you heard before, then you now know what was causing it.
It doesn't always happen when you get a text or a call, but that's when it's most noticeable.
Don't worry, it freaked me out for a while too.
This happens in my car sometimes. We'd be driving down the highway, hear the noise, and look around to see which car was getting a call.
We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?
What CornFed described happens to us all the time. We're just used to it.
I used to have a set of cheap computer speakers that sometimes picked up a Spanish-language radio station. That was always creepy in an otherwise quiet room!
