Tell me about San Antonio

DH & I want to take some weekend getaway scouting trips to LCOL areas (vs. Chicago) that has mild winters, warm weather, lower humidity. We read about Dallas, San Antonio and Austin. BUT we don't know WHICH areas to look into and/or stay away from.

We want a 3 bed, 2 bath ranch home that is in a young family neighborhood. We prefer a home that is newer (less than 15 yrs old) and has that 'new home' look with open floorplan. Doesn't have to be huge, but comfortable to start a family. Around $150k or less. We like to walk around the neighborhood, fishing, shopping, movies, restaurants, golf.

please let us know which areas/suburbs to look into and where to begin our searching. we have no clue! :)
