Needs Ideas for "Moving to Oregon"

My aunt's birthday is in Feb and she's moving here in July.  For her bd I want to make a "moving to Portland" kit and need your ideas!

So far I have:

Moving to Oregon Newcomer's Guide

Nice reusable grocery sacks

AlternaTickers - Cool, free Web tickers

Re: Needs Ideas for "Moving to Oregon"

  • Sturdy windshield wiper blades, lol!  Some friends did something similar for me before I came--that was one of the things in the package  Wink
In case you're wondering where everyone went: http://pandce.proboards.com/index.cgi
  • A sigg water bottle (or other aluminum type)

Umbrella (I know "real Oregonians" dont' use them, but cheaper than a rain coat!)

I'd say a bottle of local beer, but I don't know if you are shipping it to her?

    A Oregon Heart sticker.

That is too funny!!  I would totally do this, but she has a brand new car and I'm sure it has great blades.

  • Be sure to include a job in the kit-unless she's retiring. And a T-shirt that says "No, I am not from California"

Or else, she will get lots of indignant attitude ;)

She's working on the job thing now.  But she's works for LAPD now, so we're not worried about that.

But we do need to get her that shirt...  she IS from CA!

  • How about some fun local stuff?

local beer, local wine, local cheese, maybe some roses, something that she can grow that will work out fabulously here (blueberries? strawberries)

  • Chinook Book so she can take advantage of our local businesses.

    That's a great idea!

  • My friend also did the same thing for us when we moved...it was our wedding gift.

She had in it a cute book about all the great places to kiss in the NW, a map, an umbrella, some really cute earrings, then there were some gift certificates to Pix Patessiere and other fun Portland places.  I can't remember what else.

I like the idea of the reusable grocery sacks!
