::hmo - re: dogs::

When I took Winnie (one of the pugs in rescue) to have her arm x-rayed, the doc explained everything about broken bones and dogs. When the bone breaks, it actually grows back stronger. He said the only breed where bones tend to break repeatedly is greyhounds.

When the time comes, I can get you a pug on the cheap ;)

Re: ::hmo - re: dogs::

  • i'm running out of breeds due to dh's veto.

    pitbulls: no, they have the saddest eyes ever.
    italian greyhounds: no, they are skinny little weirdos.
    nothing too foofy or yappy.  and none of the dumb breeds.

  • Are pugs to foofy? They aren't generally barkers (Jake is) and generally, they are easy to train because they love food; they'll do anything for it.

    What about labs? Pugs have lab personalities, but are much smaller.

    Due to a traumatic childhood experience, I told H I never want a dog that I can't pick up all on my own. Thus, none of the larger breeds for me.

  • pitbulls do have sad eyes, but they're oh so cute.

    I agree with your H on greyhounds and foofy yappy dogs.

    What about a dachshund? That used to be my favorite (now it's my second). Some of them are a little yappy, though.

  • dh is beagle crazy, but he is more book crazy and i don't think he could handle having a dog destroy a bunch of reagan biographies.

    really, though, this is all idle speculation.  we'll go to a shelter or rescue and pick from there.

  • Oooooh, go to WARL. I love that place, it's seriously the best shelter ever. We used to just go there after work to hang out with dogs.
  • i was watching "dogstown" about some pitbulls and dh stopped what he was doing and was all "look at those eyes!  get the checkbook!"  i can just see a pittie begging at the table and both of us just handing it all over.

    i like dachshunds but one of my sister's friend has the most badly behaved dachshund of all time (ridiculously food-motivated, once ate everyone's dinner before they got to the table) and i think my family would disapprove.

    image
  • oh man, warl.  all of the dogs we know came from there -- boomer, sam, mr. friskies, snickers.
    image
  • Jake is getting sneaky. He stole a peice of H's bacon this AM.
    image
  • Same here. I have a falsely idealistic notion of what animal shelters are like, because WARL is the only one I've ever been to.
  • Here's an idea. When we get to DC, we'll drop Toby off at your house and you guys can have him for two months. We'll see if your H can handle him. ;)
  • Stinky, you should also visit WARL while you're in DC. You might end up with another dog or three, but it will be totally worth it. Also, it's a great and fun place to volunteer if you're looking for things to do out there. I assume you won't bother working if you're only there for 2 months.
  • there is a beagle/hounddog mix somewhere in the building that is just hilariously darling.  it has the dopiest, sweetest face ever.
