What's your favorite 'green' dishwasher detergent or DIY recipe for it, especially for hard water? The cheaper the better, but not so cheap that it ends up being more expensive by running the dishwasher twice. I use plain vinegar as a rinse aid.
I was really hopeful about the 50/50 borax and washing soda recipe but it was a total flop. For a couple of weeks I tried different amounts, making lighter loads, adding some salt, baking soda, etc. to no avail. Anything plastic came out especially disgusting like with a coating of dirty grease on it Is there some magic ingredient I'm missing?
Biokleen powder is on my list to try next. I've also tried Seventh Generation Gel (meh) and Ecover (decent).
Re: dishwasher detergent
Prob. not the most EF but the method tabs work best for us. We have well water and sometimes dishwasher detergents like Seventh Gen etc. just don't work for us. I switch between seventh gen/and method tabs.
Not sure about biokleen-haven't tried it
i am going to try the recipe found here
most of these ingredients are in my DIY laundry so i think it will work well. you can get citric acid in bulk off amazon.
i ran out of dishwasher detergent and used the same that i use for laundry in a pinch. it worked fine.
This.
