Anyone grow their own sprouts?

I want to try my hand at growing sprouts.  I'm planning to use lentils for bean sprouts, but I also want to make alfalfa sprouts for sandwiches.

Do you just buy alfalfa seeds?  Where should you get them because I'm assuming the gardening store isn't the best place?

Thanks!

Re: Anyone grow their own sprouts?

  • no, but i want to try doing this too. i've think you can also sprout broccoli and sunflower seeds.
  • Oooo!  Sunflower seeds sound yummy!  I have lentils in the jar right now.  I can't wait to try them!

  • I started growing sprouts just recently. I have a 3 seed salad mix going right now, broccoli, alfalfa, and radish, but there's a ton of different things you can sprout. I buy them where I work, you can probably get them at any health food store. I don't know about other brands but Bob's Red Mill beans, whole grains, and seeds (unless they say that they're roasted or something) will sprout, they've not been cooked or anything. We have all our own stuff plus we sell Handy Pantry and Sproutman brand sprouting seeds. The 3 seed mix is from Handy Pantry.
