thoughts on this artice from treehugger

At an effort to be more conscious about the products I am using, I found this article and wanted to know what you ladies think. Do you stay away from all 7 of these in cosmetics or just a few. I wanted to know the why behind staying away from them.

  • I think the article is pretty accurate.

The biggies (for me) are avoiding things with "fragrance" or perfumes, avoiding petroleum based products, and avoiding triclosan. I've switched to much more natural brands and/or just completely eliminated the product from my makeup bag if it seems too questionable. OCM and coconut oil + a little jasmine essential oil pretty much have become my staples.

Beyond that, I think I will be come much more militant about avoiding everything on that list if I get pregnant/have a baby.

  • i try to avoid fragrances whenever possible.  some of those things i know are bad but i'm not sure what kinds of items they're commonly in.  i pretty much try to limit the cosmetics and products i use to there isn't much to keep track of.  i am guilty of using some petroleum containing products :(
  • I'm generally not too concerned about fragrance, since we don't have real allergies, but that article was very interesting.  I try to stay away from petroleum when I can, parabens when I can.

Lately, I've been checking the cosmetics safety database religiously.  I'm having a tough time finding a balance between safety and my wallet, though, and am having a very hard deciding on a good hand lotion for my disgustingly dry and cracked hands that won't cost an arm and a leg and have a million parabens.
