This is my favorite chicken substitute when I need to use it. I've found that the taste and texture are better than any other "chicken" that I've tried. I don't use it often though, only in recipes that absolutely need something to replace the meat.
Another thing I like is textured soy protein, it makes a great substitute for ground beef in things like chili and you can get it dry in bulk at Whole Foods.
I just bought a bag of the meatballs from whole foods this weekend. Havent made them yet, but glad to hear good comments on the brand.
This is our favorite meat substitute. H is slowly transitioning over to veggie-only at home, and this is the first meat substitute I've tried with him that he actually likes. We use the chik'n tenders for stir fry, the naked cutlets with marinades occasionally, and sometimes the southwestern wings for a quick snack.
Oh, and we just tried the grounds for the first time today in tacos - H liked them A LOT more than the morningstar grounds.
lol, tell him neither the flavor nor texture (of the chicken-like products, at least) resemble mushrooms at all! He'd never know if he didn't know.
