took the plunge towards raw food

We have an organic restaurant here in town that only serves local organic food. I just signed up for a 3 day raw food detox that will be delivered to my door each morning. I'm really excited and a little nervous, DH and I are making a conscience effort this year to clean up our eating. With him away on a deployment now seemed like the best time to give it a go.

Re: took the plunge towards raw food

  • Good luck.

DH and I have toyed with the idea of going raw.  A local store has had some really interesting seminars, with really tasty samples.  The same store has an amazing 'casserole' that I would love to have the recipe for.  It is too expensive to buy very often, so we rarely have it.

  • Good luck! I'm trying to eat cleaner this year myself.
  • Good luck!  One of my friends does a raw food "detox" once or twice a year.  I've considered trying it but haven't yet.
  • I have heard that you can't get optimal nutrition from a purely raw food diet. Some foods benefit from light cooking, such as steaming.
  • I wouldn't go permanently raw - not just for nutrition reasons, but because I wouldn't like being that limited.  But the occasional stint is ok.
  • Oh how cool! That's really neat they offer that.

I watched a documentary (Supergreen Me?) about a woman who goes to a raw detox center. Very interesting! Another doc I watched (yes, I watch a lot of them!) had some doctors talking about how cooked food causes an immune response and that you should stay at about 50% min. raw food. I want to try that but its tough for me right now with eating seasonally. I'm going to try in summer and see how I feel.

The detox center said that most people don't stay 100% raw but incorporate it into their lifestyle to various degrees.
