Serving dishes/pieces-must haves
What are your must have serving dishes/pieces for either formal or informal gatherings/parties? PIP appreciated!
Re: Serving dishes/pieces-must haves
I have a few pieces from this collection from Macy's

I have the lazy susan, double warmer, single warmer, and rectangular baker. to make it look less formal I take the porcelain dishes out of the pewter holders. I think they are very nice and durable, esp for the price!
A large platter is a must for serving meat - be it casual hamburgers or a trussed up turkey.
A salad bowl.
Multiple bowls for sides.
Wicker basket for bread/chips.
Cake stand.
You can see pics of a few of my pieces in my bio for the fall party. IMO pewter (Wilton Armetale, etc) is the way to go - it can be dressed up or down. Everyone here has it, so it's easy to call around to friends to borrow a certain piece for a big event.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
I have a ton of pieces but the ones that get the most use are cake stand, big platter, veggie bowl, salad bowl, bread plate, divided server (like for 3 sauces or 3 dips) set of small bowls (like for nuts or single-serve desserts), oven-to-table baker and chip and dip set.
I have some in white and some in metal (mix of Lennox and Wilton Armetale) and they've done the job so far.

Too many to list but here's a picture of my main serving ware display with pieces I use regularly:
