My grandfather had his surgery yesterday, and it went very well. They were able to safely remove the embolism of blood in that was pressing on his aorta. During the surgery they discovered that he had another embolism in the secondary aretry in his neck, so they removed that too. The doctor said that he did well, and he is very lucky to even be alive. Both embolisms had been there for some time, could have blown and instantly killed him at any given time.
We got to see him for a few minutes last night once he got back to his room. He was hooked up to about 15 different machines, but for having a 9 hour life threating surgery even the nurses said he looked good. He had good color, was warm, had good vitals etc. They kept him heavily sedated and on a vent through the night, but my dad called me about 15 minutes ago to let me know that he woke up on his own around 4:30, which is very good news. They will continue to wean him off the sedation meds and try to get him off the vent and breathing on his own throughout the day.
Thank you for the thoughts and prayers...they worked!!

That is great news!
Hey, did you get any sleep lately? How are you feeling?
