Hey ladies! Its me again! I flew down to Orlando last Friday for my interview and I think things went great (but you never know...so I'm really crossing my fingers). I'm trying not to get too far ahead of myself, but it is very exciting about the thought of moving to Orlando. As I said before, if I get the job, I'll be working for Darden. They're building a new HQ (near the intersection of 423(John) and the Bee Line) that will open about a year from now so we want to take that consideration into thought when looking for a house (hopefully)...so what are your thoughts on the following areas (please make other suggestions that I might have left out).
Hunters Creek
Dr. Phillips
Windemere (how far from the new HQ would this be?)
Lake Nona
Kissimmee
Also...I've noticed that Kissimmee prices are MUCH lower...is there a reason? Is this a nice area?
Ideally we'd want somewhere that is fairly quiet (not a ton of students, etc.) and in a nice neighborhood I also don't know anything about public schools there, so that's something we'd want to take into consideration as well.
Thanks Thanks Thanks!!
Re: Location, Location, Location
I just moved down here from NJ a month ago. We chose Clermont for a few reasons:
Awesome house prices - we were able to build a brand new house for less than people were selling their own houses for. We would never be able to build (or even buy) a house like the one we have now in NJ. We live in the Verde Ridge development of Clermont. Highly recommend (sp?) Pulte and Hibiscus builders. Adams Homes is also in the development, but we did not have good experiences with them.
Up and coming - Clermont has a very "small town" feel. People are very friendly, but the area is still developing. Lots of new stores and restaurants coming!
Close to Disney, but far away from tourists - we're about 1/2 hour from Disney which is awesome! My husband also works in Orlando, so only 1/2 hour away from there.
Decent schools - schools aren't as good as NJ, but Lake County Schools just received an "A" grade for this past year.
From your list - I've heard that Dr. Phillips is a very nice area (I've also heard pricey).
So, I've either helped you or confused you even more! Good luck - this is very exciting!
If you do get the job offer their HR department will be able to help you with relocation. And with areas of town. And set you up with a reputable realtor.
My opinion on places to live would be Dr Phillips, Windermere area, and Lake Nona.
Hunter's Creek is by far the closest....like maybe 10 min. from the new HQ. It is a cute area that is really starting to grow with restaurants and shopping areas.
Clermont, is really far from the HQ.
Clermont isn't really "far" from anything. ?It's a great little community with a lot of things coming. ?I would highly recommend it.
Otherwise, do not go to Kissimmee. ?It is cheaper for a reason. ?It's almost all tourists. ?Out of the locations you gave, I would go with Windemere if you can afford it. ?It's a little pricey but it's beautiful.?
I live in Clermont too! We love it, but plan to hopefully move back to WInter Garden, and great little community as well. I do recommend Windermere if you can afford it, it is a fabulous little town, some of it the area is so "Old Florida" they have dirt roads, it is wonderful!
Home prices are still falling in Orlando, so as a buyer you will most likely get something great!!
I grew up in the Dr. Phillips/Windemere area - its a very nice area but is also very expensive. I think that Windermere (depending on exactly where you end up living) could be a fairly long commute to where Darden headquaters currently are (and where the new on is being built).
If I were you, I would pick the Lake Nona area. Its right off of 528 (although right now there is construction at that exit so it can get backed up) so you have really easy access to where you would work. Its a very up and coming area (building a new medical school and VA hospital) so I think the area will grow alot in the future. The schools are good in Lake Nona also - Well the current highschool they are zoned to is not but there is a new high scholl that will open next year.
I am not very familiar with Hunter Creek or Kissimmee. Prices are cheaper out there then Lake Nona/Windemere/DP area but since I dont live there or go out there I have no idea why.
Clermont is about 30 miles from where the new (and probably close to that for the current) headquarters. To me, thats too far to comute everyday for work.
Thanks ladies! I really want this job! Not only would I love going to work (something I hate right now), but I would love to live in Orlando! If I do get the job, I know I will want a fairly short commute...so I'm not looking to live 30 minutes out (especially if traffic is bad like I imagine it might be).
I threw Kissimmee in there because it seemed to be near a direct route to the area I'd want to be in and the pricing was a lot lower....but if pricing is lower, there is always a reason.
thanks for your input....I hope to be back asking for more. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
lake nona is a nice area and very close to where you will be working. i wouldn't recommend kissimmee.
