Re: steam mops? yay or nay?

  • I had a former variation on the steam mop- but basically the same concept.

I found that I only used it if I was doing some big massive clean.  But I never got it out just for the week to week cleaning.  So mostly it was a waste.  I ended up seeling it on CL.

For my weekly mopping, I just spray the floor with vinegar, and mop with a rag on the swiffer (not any kind of special reusable swiffer pad- just an old washcloth or whatever).  I find it faster, and I am more likely to do it then if I had to drag out some gadget and fillit up and plug it in and omgosh that just sounds like way too much work!  Clearly I am a lazy housekeeper.

If I do need to do a big scrub (which happens oh... about every 3 years lets be honest) I either scrub on my hands and knees or I use a regular string mop and bucket and just change the water often.

  • I have a Shark, and I LOVE it. We have hardwood and tile. It's easy to use and leaves no residue or odor like other floor cleaners.
  • My coworker just got a Shark and has been raving about it ever since! I definitely want one for our house (all hardwoods and some tile).

  • I love our Shark...it really works great, and is pretty small/easy to store.
  • I don't have a shark brand steam mop, but I have one and use it often.  I love it, and really like not using chemicals.
