The announcing last night for the Jets/Chargers was incredible. Did anyone notice these gems?
"if you want to donate to Haitia, text _____" -Jim Nantz
"Did you know that there are over 30 NFL players from the tiny island of Somalia? Players like Troy Polamalu..." -Jim Nantz
Dear Jim: I am pretty sure that you mean Samoa, not Somalia. One is an island in the South Pacific, the other is a war-torn country on the continent of Africa.
"That is a great move. Absolutely nothing can go wrong. Well, unless he fumbles and they run it back for a touchdown." -Phil Simms
Why is Jim Nantz still calling games?
Re: Last night's announcing
Well that's almost as bad as some of the commentary on the NFL network. Although it has improved a bit from a few years ago. In general though, sports announcers suck. My favorite commentary is actually on the radio... It's really fun to listen to Vikings games on KFAN.
My pet peeve with commentary this year is the number of times any announcer can mention Brett Favre. Even when it's not a Vikings game! Come on already! I believe early in the season someone broke a record for the most mentions of a word/name (Favre) in one game!
KFAN rules. I love listening to Common, he's funny.
That record was broken years ago. Especially with Madden around!
Oh, I know, Madden was really bad. But they really did break the record early this season. I was wrong about commentary though. It was not during a game, it was on ESPN's Sports Nation - Guinness World Records Recognizes SportsNation for Most ?Favre? Mentions in an Hour.
good lord all the announcers love to talk about brett favre, regardless of what is happening on the field or what teams are playing.
DH and I listened to the Cowboys-vikings game on the radio b/c we were driving home from being OOT - and while I typically actually really like listening to football games on the radio, I was getting ready to kill these announcers. If they told me one.more.time what color uniform the Cowboys were wearing (silver-gray pants and helmets, white jerseys, blue stars and blue numbers) I was going to scream. (they were equally as descriptive of the vikings.) Once or twice I would have been okay with - you are trying to give people a picture of the game, so even knowing what uniforms the teams are wearing helps a LOT. But by the end of the game, I think we had heard it maybe 30 times? Maybe more?? It was pretty ridiculous. I've listened to other football games on the radio and I have never noticed the announcers doing that before.
