Re: Shoe re: BF class

  • Boobielicious of course.

It was actually very informative and I'm glad we went; I learned a lot.  I'm REALLY glad Mr.Shoe came because they talked a lot about the dad's role and I think he learned a lot as well.  I highly recommend it for anyone who's hoping to breastfeed.

  • Thanks for posting this, i was going to email you on it later. Do you think you took it at a good time in your pregnancy, or would you have changed it to earlier or later if time was no issue?

This was the last time I would have been able to take it since the next class is offered the same day as my shower.  I guess only time will tell if it was "too early" or not.  Woman's actually recommended taking it much earlier but I think I would have forgotten a lot of the information.  The girl did stress that everything we talked about was in the booklet they gave us and that the Lactation Consultants at the hospital are not only uber helpful but also have a phone number that you can call anytime you are having problems (after delivery of course).

So to answer your question, I think it was a good time.  I didn't want to wait too late but I'm at the point in my pg that I'm thinking a lot more about BFing and what my goals are and how I'm going to make this work for us.  I can't say that 3 months ago learning more about BFing was at the top of my list.

  • My fear is like you said, taking it too early and forgetting a lot, especially since you are a little more stressed to begin with. The other part was waiting too long in case I just don't feel like moving.

  • Yeah, I think that even if I didn't have a date conflict for the next class, I would have taken it right now.  A lot of what she talked about I probably could have just read somewhere but it was nice to have a warm body affiliated with my hospital to confirm it and answer any questions.

They come into your room (at all hours) while you're at the hospital to help you with breastfeeding.  The lady that would help me was a little too "hands-on" for me.  It's just weird for some stranger to go grabbing your breast!  Elise had a lot of problems latching on, then I ended up having problems and couldn't do it because of the medication they put me on.  But yeah, that lady was something.

We're not going to a hospital so we meet with everyone ahead of time. Just ANOTHER reason I am thrilled about the birth center.
