the thing is they reg's at macys and crate and barel.... everything is $$$$$ at both places....  and im stuck. i have  $50 budget adn that would get be the cake plate for them. which imho is WAAAAAYYYY overprced for a cake plate and it doesnt even have a cover! and that is just such a lame gift to me.... i did a cake basket before and i spent $50 total, i got pans, the cake plate they reg'd for cakes frostings... and stuck it all in a basket wrapped it with a pretty bow and it looked great and i felt good about the gift...

i dont want to do a gc because they are so impersonal to me, but at this point im thinking they can use that to what they want....  i feel like cheapo depot but with baby #3 on the way and all the things my kids need, i cant get them thei awesomness that i usually do for their gift.... then were going to their wedding in oct too...... 

anyways, thanks for letting me ramble.  im just stuck and dont know what to do.....

Well, you gotta do what you gotta do. As impersonal as a GC may sound, I'm sure they'd appreciate that and being able to pick out what they want over getting something not on their registry, since they put the work into doing that. At least, I know I would.

oh i wouldnt not get them something from their registry, i just think what i can afford, needs to have another piece to it... because just a bowl doesnt seem like a nice gift to me.... kwim??

Do you know anyone else going to the shower that you could go in on something together?  Do you have any Macy's coupons?  Sometimes by combining them, you can really make a difference.

I agree with either going in on a gift or using a coupon...And if all that fails, I say go with a gift card and then they can get whatever they decide on.  I agree that they seem a little impersonal but in some situations they are just the best fit.  I have had to go this route before even when I didn't want to...Good Luck!

I would give a gc...they may get others from either place that would allow them to get something they want.  Besides, who really needs a cake plate?  Otherwise I would just give them the $50 with a note telling them you hope they get to pick out something nice.  We got a lot of cash for our wedding, which was nice to have on our honeymoon......

If you have a few dollars left over, get over to Wally world and buy a nice ribbon, a rubber spatula and a box or two of cake mix and put that on top of the plate, tie the spatula into the ribbon on it and that's fantastic!~

OR

Even more thoughtful, if the cake plate is exactly $50, get it and hand write out a few of your favorite cake recipes (trifle, anyone?) and put that in with the plate or in your card. It's all about the little thoughtful touches. Or maybe with your connections, put one fresh flower in on the wrapping, too, to make it look nice.

 

I'm going to see you in a few mins anyway so I have no idea why I'm typing this out. LOL!

i would go with a gc.  id rather show up with that than just a plate.  even though they both are the same in value, i just think its weird (probably not the right word but i can think of anything else right now) to just get a plate. kwim?
