Lasik

Got back from my consultation and I'm going to take the plunge. I don't think I can deal with glasses after 20+ years of wearing contacts. They did all kinds of crazy tests and said I'm a candidate. The Care Credit card I have will do 24 months no interest with a small monthly payment (it's a medical expense credit card, you can use it for dental work, cosmetic, vets...so far I've used it for dental work and the vet). I will pay it off well before the 24 months.

So the damage? $4,085. All the latest technology, no more human cutting the flap, it's done by a computer that maps out exactly the right thickness of the flap for you. All customizable and junk.

Anyone here have Lasik? Am I insane? My biggest apprehension is the 'appearance' of the surgery. DH is not working, in school, his dad is paying a big chunk of it and giving him money for expenses....and here I am, dropping 4 grand on my eyes. It does have a medical edge to it, I can't wear contacts anymore and sometimes just the weight of the glasses on my face can trigger a headache/migraine (justify justify).

Re: Lasik

  • Go for it. Care credit is the shizz for just such occasions. Plus, it's medically necessary. You might see if your insurance will cover any of it based off that info. Couldn't hurt, you know?

  • I was thinking that too, maybe Aetna will kick some money in for it as well since everything is a fricking migraine trigger nowadays. I'm sure they'll laugh at me but won't hurt to check.

Emailed the lady and told her I'd like to take the 2/12 slot. Day after my birthday. Happy birthday to me, here's vision!

  • If you can pay it off before the 24 months and the ILs won't care, nobody else needs to know your financial situation.

Be prepared that even with the surgery you may need glasses- readers or just from aging.

  • DH laughed at me when I shared the reason behind my apprehension. Said there's no reason for concern. I'll probably still get a bit of a side eye but holy hell putting up with DH during school I deserve new eyes AND lipo.

6- doc said I will prob need readers at some point. I'm okay with that.

Yes, i've had it. I do not regret it at.all. You are insane if you don't do it ;)

IMHO - It sounds like the deal for your DH to go back to school and not work was a deal where, as long as you are able to still cover your expenses, no one needs to be side eyeing you.
