Are you and DH filing jointly or separately?

Jointly... I did a little research on this the other day and typically unless one half of the couple has a ton medical debt or they'll be claiming a bunch of credits, then it's most advantageous to file jointly.

We, like Karen, will be doing the numbers both ways and filing whichever way gives us more $$. The only reason we may need to file separately is that, combined, we make a disproportionate amount of money to our claimable expenses (as in, we don't own a home and have no children).

We did an estimate of both joint and separately and so far it's looking about the same.  I think we'll just make it simple and do 1.  I thought there was a credit or something for being married... guess not.

Yeah, we've got to look at our numbers too - still waiting on all our paperwork to come in.

DH said he was going to run our numbers both ways and see how much we would get back etc.  But we had planned on filing jointly.

DH owns his own business so we're just taking everything to HR Block and have them crunch everything for us and figure out how to get the best return!

We're filing jointly.  At the beginning of December I ran the numbers using the IRS calculator and saw our return would be larger filing joint.  I also spoke with a few people who do taxes and they confirmed that filing joint tends the be the more advantageous return.  As soon as I get my student loan interest statements DH will file our taxes...new couch here we come!

I forgot to change my address with 2 places I used to work last year...ugh just realized now! Guess I will have to wait longer!

I think we are going to do jointly too.

I am still waiting on most of our tax stubs so I will run the numbers both ways and see what one pays us the most $$.

While there are some deductions that you can benefit from filing separately---most of the time filing jointly puts you at a lower rate.
