XP: Chinese New Year celebrations
does anybody besides me celebrate this holiday?
if so, i thought we could share ideas, recipes, etc... since it is less than a month away now.
(haha - i posted this on the entertainment board first by accident)
Re: XP: Chinese New Year celebrations
I used to when I was dating my ex who was Chinese.
Here are some Chinese recipes I've made:
ETHNIC - CHINESE
Maybe throw a Chinese Bao (Steam Bun) Class or even a Stir Fry Bar & Luncheon
Combine Chinese culture with food and a movie with Joy Luck Club (Chinese inspired)
Not sure if where you live has a Chinatown and if so what about a tour of the local Chinatown Neighborhood 1
The Chinese have some interesting wine and I previously hosted a Chinese Wine Tasting for Chinese New Year
Or even a potluck with friends where their dish must be made in Woks
oh - thanks for that recipe link. we always switch up a few dishes that we serve. we do a dinner party like event with authentic foods.
i hadn't ever thought about showing a movie - that is a good idea. we will be teaching how to play mah-jung(sp) this year.
seattle does have a chinatown, but its not near where we live.
thanks for the ideas and recipes!
mah jong is fun...I lost last week when I was playing
I haven't really made anything for Chinese New Year, but my mom makes "fortune muffins" (loosely translated) seen here.
New Year's eve, is a vegetarian dinner, and some people eat vegetarian the day of as well.
My aunt makes turnip cake. I attempted to make it and it turned out pretty good. My aunt grates the turnips though, whereas I left them in strips.
i love the taro cakes that are made like those turnip cakes, unless they are made w/too much oil. i just can't ever find taro around here.
i'll have to look into the fat gao - thanks!
