What's the Most Exciting Thing...

... you have ever done?!

I saw this on another board and I was curious for more answers.  Lately, it seems that everyone I know is having kids and I feel like as long as DH and I still child-less, we can still get out and do exciting things and that's what makes our lives fulfilling for now.  Not that you can't have an exciting life as a parent, but I'm guessing it's harder and a lot less spontaneously.

Anyway.... what's the most exciting thing you've ever done?!

Re: What's the Most Exciting Thing...

  • Most recently?  Last weekend, DH and I and about 12 other friends decided to go to a St. Louis Blues game.  It turned out that the cheapest seats were like $48 each and a suite was $60 each with free drinks!  So, within a couple hours of deciding, we were in a suite watching some hockey with a great view and drinking free beer!  Well, DH was, I'm not a drinker.  I did have my money's worth in Diet Pepsi, though.

     Ever?  Once DH and I went to Atlanta one weekend to see friends and watch the Chicago Bears play the Falcons -- even though we live MUCH closer to Chicago than Atlanta, I guess we still felt the urge to go.  That same weekend, we took a day trip to Savannah.  We probably spent more time driving there and back, but it was fun.  I love finding new places (and getting lost in the process) with him.

    We've been on several vacations together too - one was only about 3 months after we started dating!  We went to LA for almost a week and now that seems so crazy that we did it so quickly!  We also hiked up a waterfall once in Jamaica... that was cool.

    On my own (without DH)?  I used to be in the plays and musicals in my high school.  Cheezy as it sounds, it was always exciting to be on stage.  I felt the same about band too.  My Sr. year, I was a drum major, which always excited me for competitions.  I felt pretty badass with the headset on. :)   I know, I know... I sound like a super-huge nerd.  But, I grew up in a small area so everybody did everything and it wasn't as nerdy to be in musicals or band.  Our *star* trumpet player was on the football team and he played halftime in his football uniform.  Half of our color guard were cheerleaders... you get the idea.

    Sorry that was long, I'm just so bored tonight......

  • Oh, I forgot one more thing from HS... I was voted Prom Queen!  Hahaha... I know that's pretty material and ridiculous, but I was pretty excited at the time. :)

  • Well, outside of getting married (which is pretty exciting!) I'd say traveling in Europe.  I've been there four or five times in the last decade, and it never gets old.  I love taking my camera and me and just walking around taking pictures of all the history.  LOVE it.
  • Lately nothing due to our LO. But we used to just decide to get up and go to Orlando (2 hrs away) and spend the day at a theme park, usually Seaworld. We are going there in 5 weeks, but I think starting in April we are going to start going at the drop of a dime again.

  • When I was 14/15, I traveled all over the western half of the US by bus over a 6 week period. LOVED IT...just wish I could find my pictures.

    Other than that, a few vacations were fun...but I wouldn't describe them as exciting. Maybe my years at camp with all my friends?

  • I think for me it would be NYLC (national young leader's conference) when I was 17.  I was a good student so I was invited to a lot of stuff like that but my family never had the money to send me and most of the trips were overseas so they cost around $10,000.  I also wasn't very outgoing and I was scared of the thought of being so far from home with a ton of complete strangers. The invite for that one came while my parents were in the process of settling their divorce.  My dad felt that he needed to prove something so he paid for the trip.

    I made several new friends (2 are still good friends today and came to my wedding).  We got to tour DC, check out a different mall every day, had social events every night, and we even had a huge dinner/dance party on the last day.  My high school was pretty redneck and I really didn't fit in but NYLC was 400 people from all over the country.  I felt a lot more accepted than in high school and I loved every minute of it.  If I could relive that 10 days I certainly would.

  • Four wheeling in Kauai was amazing!  Loved getting sall muddy, perfect views, steep hills and going really fast.  Then we came to a river and there was a rope tied to a tree.  That is where they taped an Indiana Jones movie and you could swing out on the rope over the river.  Only a few people from our group did it, including myself!  It was awesome!

    Close second was my friend's 26th birthday.  He had just battled cancer and was done with treatment etc.  So a huge group of us went on a pub crawl and had THE BEST time.

  • The most exciting thing I've ever done was go backpacking in Europe for a week for spring break with my BFF/MOH, who was my college roommate at the time. We barely had any money, stayed in hostels the whole time, and the trip itself was not very well planned out. It was definitely stressful and crazy, but it was an incredible experience.
  • My life is kind of boring with school and everything...

    But probably my most exciting thing on my own was interviewing for graduate school. The schools fly you out, pay for EVERYTHING the whole weekend, and wine and dine you, trying to get you to come. So I traveled to all over the country on someone else's dime, and had my own personal toor guide. I guess I had interviews 5 different weekends, and this was during my senior year of college, so it was crazy busy, but sooo fun.

    DH and I have taken a lot of road trips, which is always exciting. And buying our current house and renovating it in 10 days, while we were both working was REALLY exciting, and crazy lol. But I think our rehearsal dinner was one of the coolest experiences we've had, we chartered a yacht for a dinner cruise in the Hudson. Very fun.

  • Hmmm... I don't feel like I've lead a real exciting life but here are a few things I think were exciting:

    -The trip I took to France the summer before my senior year in HS. It was most of the kids from the different French classes at our HS and our French teacher was super cool. There were a couple days where we were pretty much left to our own devices and it was pretty amazing being 17 and out on our own in a foreign country.  Cool, exciting, and a little scary.

    -Taking flying lessons.  I took a few lessons then decided I'd much rather be a passenger than a pilot.

    -Ziplining on our HM and riding the Superman Tower of Power last summer. I am super afraid of heights so even though doing these things terrified me and I didn't like them, I'm proud of myself for even attempting to conquer my fears.

    -Going snorkeling on our HM. This was something I ALWAYS wanted to do- I love the water. Next I want to try scuba.

    Exciting things I want to do:  Go on a haunted tour next Halloween,  go white water rafting, take a letterpress class, take horseback riding classes, learn how to swing & salsa with DH.

  • Got married! :-) But since you've already taken care of that...

    -scuba diving (we did this on our HM for the first time and we both LOVED it)

    -safari in South Africa

    -zipline/horseback riding in the jungle (Costa Rica)

    -political rallies/marches (we've been to a few. it's quite a rush to stand up for something you believe in with 1000s of other people! we stay away from the negative ones though)

    -spent 6 weeks in Ireland (did study abroad in undergrad, I'm dying to take DH there now)

    -went to opening day at the new Nats Stadium (also opening day the first season the Nats were in Washington!)

    -college! :-)

  • I saw Garth Brooks in concert....we were 4th row center.  Best Concert. EVER!

    We take a lot of random trips!  We're living on the east coast now (after being a midwestern all our lives), so we feel the need to to get out and experience as much as we can.  One weekend we went to Richmond, VA and went to Kings Dominion and rode ALL the roller coasters and did the drop tower (twice)!  I'm so proud of myself cause I hate heights and get uber nervous before riding any roller coaster.

    Also driving through the mountains of West Virginia in the heaviest fog ever...exciting :)

    I was in Paris the night the French won the Euro Cup (I was 16 and traveling with just my sister and her friend while her husband was away on duty.)  Scariest, yet exciting moments of my life; fireworks in the metro tunnel, mass hysteria, and rioting.  I spent my whole summer with my sis while her husband was away serving, so we did a lot of traveling. It was the best time of my life!

  • I drove cross country, with only my dog, to come spend the rest of my life with my sweetheart! If I hadn't been in such a bad place, i would have taken more time to enjoy the trip.
  • Some exciting things I have done: moved to TX for one summer during college, traveled to Europe at 16 & again at 18 and went to a couple different countries and most exciting thing...got married!

  • I think my life is kind of dull after reading all of yours!

    1. Seeing New Kids on the Block in concert when I was 7. My super fabulous uncle took me and he died a few years later so I suppose that makes it extra special. Also, during the show, Donnie Wahlberg fell through the stage and they had to bring ambulances in and he was taken away...

    2. I was (and am) REALLY into music, so meeting Chris Carrabba (Dashboard Confessional) and the guys from Something Corporate (I got to go on their bus and interview them when I was in college!), Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Men Women and Children, New Found Glory, Finch...(did I mention I was a freak about music?)

    3.  Attending the Inauguration of President Obama was AWESOME. There was a moment when I just looked around and everyone had tears in their eyes as he was being sworn in. I had attended by myself (could only get one ticket through my office), but I felt anything but alone in that moment.

    4. As many of you said...getting married! But I think everything about DH and I's relationship has been exciting. Him coming to visit me in person after 3 months of talking online/on the phone (he spent 13 hours on a train...I thought that was the sweetest thing :)), moving to DC from Vermont to be with him, our first apartment, my first dog, even my first car!

  • I'd like to think I have lead an exciting live thus far but I am sure it's only exciting to me lol. Here's some of the things ive/we've done.

    -Drove to Newfoundland and back with my mom and sister in 2001. There're some things that happened during that trip that we still talk about and still make us end up in tears of laughter.

    -FI and I flew to Toronto for 3 nights with about 80 bucks each to see a band we both loved. We stayed in a hostel downtown, saw the concert, went to muchmusic, went up in the CN tower, met some super fun people, wondered around Toronto in the middle of the night and it felt like we owned the place. I won't walk around Red Deer at night but for some reason Toronto felt ok. I guess it was because there were so many other people around.

    -Everytime we stop the car for an abandonded house I get a rush. You never know what's inside...or if you can even get inside. Some of these old farm houses are probably a hundred years old! One day I plan to make a shutterfly book of all the houses we've shot.

     I know. We are going to do it, but we have to wait until Jaiden is a yr old, which means in March we are going to buy the tickets and go.

  • I've had some good times in my 30 years.  I'd have to say the highlights include:

    -packing up and going to law school in Idaho where I knew no one (scary at the beginning, but such a great time once I got there);

    -my first trip to Vegas with my girlfriends;

    -going to Vegas by myself the summer before I met DH (I was all about gambling, dancing and getting free drinks...the perfect vacation);

    -going to my first NHL game last spring (Go Preds!) with DH.

  • The single most exciting thing I've ever done that led to the happiness I have now was deciding to leave my ex, and then within 20 minutes of the breakup, deciding to throw what i could into my car and drive to Brooklyn to start over at 28. Driving to NYC alone is crazy enough, but throw in that I had no clue about anything, no job, and only a friend's couch to sleep on... it was pretty miraculous that it all worked out so beautifully. I always dreamt of living in this city and a mere 4 months after i got here, I met my hubby. Meant to be!

    Exciting things to come... DH and I are driving across the country (literally, from NYC to SF) to start our new married lives together on the west coast. It's where we envision starting our family. Not that I've ever lived there either, but now I feel like I can do anything! Cool
