Chicago Cheap Eats?

Hello Ladies.

I'm from Boston, but the hubs and our 4 month old will be in Chicago tomorrow and Friday.  I'm looking for some good (cheap) breakfast and lunch ideas?  We are staying downtown (E. Hubbard?).  Any ideas??

TIA

Re: Chicago Cheap Eats?

  • Wow Bao is one of my favorite spots... particularly the one by the Reniassance hotel.    I believe they have egg sandwiches and oatmeal in the mornings, and then they serve Bao (asian steamed buns) in a variety of flavors in the afternoons and evenings.   tasty and cheap.    There is also a Wow Bao at Water Tower Place, but they don't have breakfast there.   But breakfast is served at the WTP food court.   not super cheap, but not terrible, either.

I also like to hit up the hole in the wall hot dog-type joints for cheap lunches.   A place called Grillers up by Rush and Pearson has a big variety of pita sandwiches, italian beef, sausage, hot dogs, etc... all for pretty cheap.    But any of those types of counter-style places are good options.

  • Bongo Room is great for breakfast (at Wabash / Roosevelt in South Loop area).
