Did you enjoy The Hangover?

I finally watched The Hangover last night and I just don't get all the hype.  And I especially don't understand the Golden Globe. It had its moments but I don't feel like it was anything special.  If you loved it, what am I missing?

  • After the Globes, I was wondering about this! I haven't seen it because I thought it looked dumb...and then it wins best Comedy/Musical Film??  I was like, wait - was that good???

Glad I'm not the only one on this side.  It was much better than some of the slap stick, stupid joke comedy that I can't stand (think...Ace Venture...Billy Madison, etc - those just aren't my thing) but I can't figure out what made it 'special'?

  • L loves it and thinks it's hilarious, but we actually watched it last night and i was bored. I mean, there were some parts that were funny, but I found a lot of the movie to be kind of boring.
  • Yes - I laughed SO MUCH during that movie. I can see why you wouldn't think it lived up to the hype, but I saw it when it first came out and it was much, much funnier than I expected it to be. There were tears running down my face at least twice.

It's not an Oscar winner but that's what is great about the Golden Globes - the chance to recognize movies like this that exceed expectations and make people laugh. The only other movie I saw in that category was (500) Days of Summer, which was great, but given the choice to watch one of them again I'd have to go with The Hangover :)

  • Also, proof that the Golden Globes are more about stuff people enjoy than absolute quality - Avatar beat Inglourious Basterds in the other best movie category. That movie may be gorgeous, technologically mind-blowing and a huge blockbuster, but the story is a retread and the acting in it is fine but nothing comparable to Melanie Laurent and Christopher Waltz in Basterds. I don't begrudge Avatar the Golden Globe win, but I will WAY begrudge if it wins the Oscar!

  • I didn't love it but I wouldn't say I was bored. There were funny bits and stuff that I would have rather they left out.

This was exactly what were were saying after the win.
