AW and random questions!

DH and I adopted a dog over the weekend! She's a 9 wk old cocker spaniel/border collie mix. :)

For those of you with dogs, about how much is a vet check up? The shelter is going to get her spayed and give her her shots, but we are going to need to bring her to a personal vet soon and was just wondering what is the normal price in BR?

Also, do y'all have pet insurance? I'm researching some companies and wondering if anyone has had good/bad experiences with companies. I'm a worry worm when it comes to stuff like this, so any advice is welcome! :)

Re: AW and random questions!

  • My friends use Waugespack (sp?) on Siegen and LOVE them, that's where we got Pappagano neutered too. They were $100 less than my vet, whom I love, but he was just pricey. We went to Tim Armstrong across from CCL. I think it was about $100-$150 for an annual visit.

  • And when do we get to see pictures? Name, etc?

  • Oh sorry! I'm so exhausted since I have to take her out at night lol.

Her name is Millie...she used to live with all her siblings in a foster home and they named her Amelia, but we just went with Millie for short.

Here's a pic of her. It's hard to get a picture of her awake, since I was using my phone camera. :) She's a fluff ball, for sure. :)

  • Aww she is adorable!!! I go to Dr. Leblanc but she is in West Baton Rouge so it is probably to far for you, but usually a check up is about $100. I do not have pet insurance. I have been very lucky Cota has not had any serious ailments. And I have only taken her to the LSU vet once and it cost $130 that was the visit and medicines.
  • aw, she's so adorable!!!  Puppies are so much fun :)

I'd call around a few places about pricing for the vet.  Some of the places in BR are really high I find.  You might do better to try Denham.  I also used to take my animals to a vet on the west side when I lived there, but it can be a pain crossing the bridge just for that.  Just call around.

  • Soooo cute!  Our yearly vet visit is approximately $77.  I think the very first visit is a bit more and if we have to go back during the year for something it's approximately $30, depending on what we're there for.  We go to Azalea Lakes Vet on Old Jefferson.

Ditto Christen though.  I'd just call around and ask for prices and since you live so close to Denham, definitely check there.  GL!

  • We've used Dr. Paula Drone for years with our cats and love her. She is no frills though, but it keeps the cost down. I am not sure how much the dog visit would be, but our cat visits were cheap, usually half of what the other vets charged.

Her clinic is called Animal Ark, and it is in the Drusilla Shopping Center across from Hancock Fabrics and behind Drusilla Seafood.

Her secretary can't spell worth a damn, but don't hold that against them, lol!

  • Congrats on the puppy!! So exciting.

Our Vet is White Oak Animal Hospital on O'Neal Lane. All of the check-ups have been around $80. It's $35 for the visit plus any medicines.
