Was pretty damned awesome. Saturday we went to visit FIL (who is still in a lot of pain but doing well), had dinner with my ILs and some of their friends. Then we went and spent some time with close friends of our's. Sunday we toodled around the City and caught a movie. Avatar was awful. Nothing can remove that kind of stink from my eyes. Monday we both had the day off so we ran some errands, got me my supplies for my beading class and hung out. We got home and watched Phantom Menace. H dubbed the weekend "the weekend of bad movies" it was fun. Somewhere in there we managed to have a STSSM. It was great.
Re: Weekend
I liked Avatar. It was pretty much Dances-With-Wolves on another planet, but I enjoyed it.
I especially loved the effects. The story was ok, but the planet was cool.
Hated it. It was FernGully without the charm. H called it "Forest Dune."
The script was awful and predictable. Not to mention so badly written. It was visually pretty at some points. Mostly I felt it looked like the fibreroptics/blacklight section of Spencer's.
Andplusalso, the whole deus ex machina drove me nuts. Not to mention the whole Eywah thing. He seriously couldn't find something better to name his "diety" other than a scrambled version of Yaweh? Really, James Cameron? Pleh.
Forest Dune would also be accurate. Except of course there was no millions and milllions of milliliters of water to release onto the planet at the end.
I loved the visual part of it. Very visually stunning, and reminded me of some dreams I've had (maybe that's why I liked it).
And what should he have named the diety? Titanic McOscargrabber?
ANYTHING! Be creative. If you're writing (or attempting to in his case) be creative. Don't through the letter's of another deity into a cup and toss them to see what comes up. I know it's the least of the list but it really jumped out at me every time it was mentioned. I could have accepted Asldkfjeiw more because at least it wouldn't be a badly veiled attempt at a name.
