Do you go to or have you been to a Nutritionist?
Was it worth it? Did you learn anything? Did you become healthier as a result?
Do you have any recommendations or "stay away"s?
Thank you!!!
In the end, only kindness matters...

Re: Do you go to or have you been to a Nutritionist?
Well this is the profession I wanted to do out of high school. I somehow ended up in legal, but I still want to pursue getting a license to be a Nutritionist. Do people NEED to go to a Nutritionist, probably not in most cases. Their doctor should be able to supply a patient with an eating plan that suits their needs. A blood workup can help a doctor determine what nutrients are missing in a diet and need improvement. I have had a family doctor in past that gave my mom an entire workbook for the Dash Diet, for high blood pressure. She didnt need to followup with a Nutritionist...she followed up with her regular doctor.
Nutritionists are also great motivators for those that have trouble following a strict diet and exercise regimen. Some people feel they need that extra push from a Nutritionist to keep on track. And Nutritionists are trained to do that.
I would recommend a Nutritionist if you have specific dietary needs (such as diabetic, high blood pressure, vegetarian, etc.) because they can plan out meals for you to fit your dietary goals and needs. There are also a whole bunch of great books that you can buy specific to the type of diet/plan you want, and follow it on your own, after a doctor's approval, of course.
Look into keeping a food and exercise journal to keep track of your portions, and what you are putting into your body. Its actually very helpful for your doctor sometimes too. I use sparkpeople DOT COM to track my foods, liquids, exercise. Its a great website chock full of info.
Sorry that I dont have a local Nutritionist to recommend, but maybe your doc has one they work hand and hand with. Whatever you do, dont ever stay with a Nutritionist that pushes a ton of pills or any sort of appetite suppressant that your doctor doesnt approve. My co-workers' wife went to one of these "Nutritionists" and has ruined her health with all these lovely diet pills and body cleanses she was put on.
Thanks, girl!
I know someone that went to a nutritionist in Celebration and was given B12 shots and something to get her thyroid appropriately functioning again. It sounds strange to me, so I'm looking for someone else. What do you think about the B12 shots? I hear that's really common!
See I dunno about the B12 shots. If my actual doctor said I needed them due to a deficiency, I would consider them, but since it effects central nervous system and provides energy, I would be weary. I rather take the B12 in pill form.
With thyroid, I personally would not seek treatment from a Nutritionist as a first choice. Thyroid is just not something to mess around with. That is me though....
I would use a Nutritionist along with a doctor to help specialize a plan to suit your needs. They can work hand and hand.
