hey, y_l

so let's say you assigned a book report to your class.  and let's say that the assignment consists of a list of vocabulary words, questions about the story, and a 2-page summary.

on the day it's due, a student turns in the vocabulary and questions list and then tells you that he/she was typing up their summary late the night before, and their computer crashed and the whole thing was lost.

would that fly with you?  Embarrassed

Re: hey, y_l

  • No.  You take that risk when you procrastinate.  Assuming the student had more than one night to do the assignment, that excuse wouldn't work with me.

    Just being honest.

  • Nope.

My motto is "a lack of planning on your part doesn't constitute an emergency on mine."

I let kids turn in stuff late, but it's half credit, even in situations like that.

  • did the computer actually crash or did "the dog eat her homework?" ;)

  • I know a lot of teachers have taken stuff late from LSIL and LBIL when something like that has happened.  But now that they're getting older, they've gotten reduced credit the few times it's happened.  Some of their teachers give out homework passes they can use or save up for extra credit too.

FYI: some times the kids are just procrastinating, but sometimes they really are having computer problems.  I don't know what it is with them and computers, but they have bad luck with them.

  • I have many a computer problem when I have to turn something in.

But if I don't wait until the last possible minute to do the assignment then I would be able to solve that problem. Yes
