thinking of surgery NSFW, MAYBE

so I googled tummy tuck and I read about recoverys.  Turns out its pretty serious recovery time.  I went to the message boards and read about swelling and drainage and the inability to stand up straight for weeks.  I'm not doing this.  I don't have time for this.  However,  the draining sounded cool.

Here's a pic.

Re: thinking of surgery NSFW, MAYBE

  • FIL had prostate and hernia surgery at the same time. He's been draining too. I didn't see it. I don't want to see it. Thought you'd like to know, though.
  • WHAT ARE THOSE BULBS.  WHAT ARE THOSE.

  • I think I heard about the little drainage things.  You have to keep them very clean and clear.

  • Yep. My friend got one. That's pretty much what she looked like. And the scar runs halfway around her hips. It was pretty intense.

One of DH's friends' wives got one, too and ended up with a staph infection that whe was in and out of the hospital with for ever.

Thing is, neither one of them looks super hot at this point.  I mean, I'm all pro-cosmetic surgery and everything, but if I'm spending thousands of dollars and going through weeks of pain, I'd better look DAMN good afterwards, not just a little better than I used to look, you know?

  • also, I had the drainage things after my lipo in 2002.  It was pretty cool, actually. :)

  • They refer to those bulbs as genrade sized fluid collectors.  Based on my breif research you could wear those for anywear from 2 - 5 weeks.  You also have to report on how much fluid you are draining and sniff it on a regular basis to see if there is infection.  That is the only part of the healing process that appeals to me. LOL
  • Like her or not, the after pics of Kate Gosselin look good, especially when compared to the befores.
  • aren't the bulbs called "shunts"? My friend was in a car wreck when we were in high school and I have a horrible memory of sitting on her shunt and popping it all over her bed. *shudder*

  • Shunts are slightly different, those are JP drains and they are very common after surgery. My Grandmother had one after both her mastectomy and her open heart surgery.
