Fake Grass?

OK have any of you ever actually seen a property (other than a football field) in SC that had fake grass?

I was looking for lawn solutions last week and I came across this website, www.synlawn.com

So curiosity got the best of me and I got some samples, and it arrived today and I am just fascinated by this stuff, it REALLY does look real!  Basically they bring it to your house in large rolls and install it like carpet.  you don't water it, mow it, rake it etc.  A couple times a year you have to hose it down, and then you remove leaves etc by using a leaf blower.

It's WAY out of our budget, (the sample I picked out from what the sent was 6.39 a square foot), but my parents are actually somewhat entertaining the idea of looking into it for their yard.

I was just wondering if anyone around here ever resorts to this when they get sick of fussing with their lawns.  Have YOU ever seen it?

Re: Fake Grass?

  • I've never seen it, but I'm sure my DH would love it if he didn't have to deal with the lawn.  In my sister's subdivision, there is one guy who spray paints his grass in the winter.   All the other lawns are all brown and dry (stupid bermuda grass) and his is this turqiousy color.

PS- It's Bunko time again this Friday!  I feel like we just had it.

  • Wow it DOES just feel like we just went to Bunko!  wasn't last months off by a week or something though?  LIke it wasn't the usual weekend?

Did you read below in my Bunko post where I got a new in the box bunko set on ebay for $.99???

And I know you didn't ask or anything, and it's presumptuous for me to even say anything, but should you need someone to fill in Friday, I can't, we're going home to my DH's family reunion, and then to visit my friend whose mother is dying :'(

  • No fake grass for us... My DH and his dad run a lawn maintenance company... Girl...  They need their job!  LOL!  Sounds neat though!

  • whoa! Besides the fact that it is fake, and you can kinda tell in the pictures, this is AWESOME! Okay, so I was 25 years old before I mowed my first lawn, or even had 2 sq ft of grass (there isn't much grass in CO)... I HATE mowing, especially in April/May, when you have to do it 2 times a week. This would save me from sweating greatly when I mow Saturday mornings now.
  • I am so loving the stuff and DH said over his dead body would he let me put "Carpet grass" in our yard haha.

He said he would NOT be known as the "Lazy SOB who can't even mow his yard," in our neighborhood.

For me it really wasn't about the mowing as much as just having a pretty green yard year round.

Some of the samples look REALLY real, especially some in their bluegrass line... of course my favorite variety can be yours for the low low cost of $6.39 per square foot BEFORE installation :-P

It also poses a problem though because of where your yard "ends".  You really kinda have to have landscaping all around your property to blend where your fake grass ends and the neighbor's yard begins etc... I think it would make our yard look smaller to have to have mulchced landscaping all around the perimeter.

I still think the stuff is absolutely awesome though.

If any Greenville ladies are curious, I can bring the samples to the next GTG.

  • Yeah Bunko was off by a week.   It was supposed to be the Friday before, but Danielle's friend was going to be away and asked if it could be changed so she wouldn't miss it.

I think all 12 of us are playing this month- even the one who you filled in for after she had her babies.  I'm guessing she's itching to get out of the house.

Don't worry I'll keep you in mind and if we need a fill in for the upcoming months,  I'll ask the host if you can come.

Cool for you scoring a Bunko set!
