TV Reception

This might be a long shot since most of you probably don't use tv antennas. We have a digital tv antenna and we can't get reception for one of the major channels in our area. Does anyone know if there is something we can do to get reception? Oh and by the way we can get this channel upstairs but not downstairs.

Re: TV Reception

  • It probably has to do with signal strength.  Essentially, a signal is strongest closer to the point of conduction.  With the recent DTV switch, because the signal is more complex, it eats up some of the power of the conductor, therefore the towers and dishes cannot send the signal as far.  Many stations are reluctant to upgrade equipment in this economy because it would mean laying off staff, so some stations are making their out of date equipment last longer than it was meant to and some signal quality is suffering.

It is unfortunate but something I'm happy for (my stepmom is a photojournalist and live truck operator for a network news station in my hometown).

  • Do you own?  You can put an antenna on your roof or in your attic.  I'm too lazy to do that, so I just don't get ABC (the antenna is ~15 miles away).  I still get 14 channels.  Good enough.
