I don't like the beard, but I can't blame him for having it. I read they shave all the male characters multiple times a day to get the clean shaven look.

And I don't know about Season 3 on DVD. We watch off On Demand. Oh, TV and DVR, how I lovest thee. We make the most awesome threesome (shhhh...I don't count H in the mix).
