Jacked up parenting story.

My dad's parents lived in NYC for a time. My oldest aunt was a few years old, and they were walking around the city. Two guys came up to them. One grabbed my aunt, one grabbed my grandma's purse. What does my grandma do? Not drop her purse and go after her child. She fights the guy trying to take her purse while this other guy is running off with her kid. My grandpa did get my aunt back.

My dad's mom is BSC. I haven't spoken to her in about 5 years. She used to beat her kids for the hell of it with a broom. Apparently she's on death's door. I don't care. There was nothing grandmotherly (or motherly) about her at all. I think only my uncle speaks to her. My dad is pretty much done with her.

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
  • my grandmother (who died when my dad was 17) left her kids with her mom for a long time, who tried to sell them.

  • Damn.  That's horrible.
  • Same here.  My gma (dad's mom) had no business being a mother.  She had 5 children, too.  My father bore the brunt of her craziness.  She was known to tie him to a chair and hit him in the face with a closed hand.

She once forked his hand because he reached across the table.  As an 8 year old boy.  EIGHT.  Who does that shiot?

  • My great grandmother used to beat my grandmother with a leather strap that had metal studs on it. She even threw her down that stairs once. GM was responsible for raising her siblings while her mother slept with various men at a local park. Uh huh.
  • My mom and aunts joke that my grandparents left home before their kids did. There were 10 kids and gma & pa were gone before the last two were out of high school.

Dad grandmother was married off to a 25 y.o., Italian immigrant at the age of 12. Very Reba McEntire "Fancy".

  • Both of FI's parents were made to kneel on piles of rice and pray if they did anything wrong. Sometimes for hours.

FI's dad can't kneel now because of that.

  • All of DH's siblings are okay now, but they all had their jacked up moments. They don't all talk to each other. My wedding and college graduation was never acknowledged by two of my dad's siblings. They didn't even call my dad to say congrats.

That said, I do love my grandfather. He's a cool old guy. I can't wait for him to meet Andrew.

    That's horrific.

H's grandmother hit him in the head with a plastic pitcher. He has a small dent and scar as a reminder.

  • Ever since my family went off the deep end somewhere between Thanksgiving and x-mas, I am wishing I would have been sold to someone else as a child.
