What is up with service people down here?

Seriously. We have had to call an HVAC guy and a couple of electricians for our new house and it has been a huge pain. They don't call back. One was even scheduled to show up and didn't. Is this par for the course down here? We called a guy about custom blinds and was scheduled to come take some measurements and never showed up. None of them seem like they even care if they get our business or not. Sorry for venting a bit, but this is ridiculous. Have we just had incredibly bad luck or are all service people in the South like this?

Re: What is up with service people down here?

  • I think you've had bad luck.  Maybe you're calling the wrong people, or do you live in a rough part of town? Maybe they see your neighborhood and turn around?

We've never had anyone no show.  I have had them call and reschedule before, but that's true of anywhere.

  • I've had people from ATT not show up for their scheduled day nor did they call. The next day some random dude showed up and said the work could not be done. So we called and asked for antoher technician. The guy came on time and did all the work -- he said it was simple just time consuming... Lazy @ss 1st guy!
  • We do live out in the country, but I definitely wouldn't consider it a rough neighborhood. Mostly horse farms.

Hmm I've never really lived in the country, but maybe the trip to your home isn't really worth what they think they would make on the sale???  Still no excuse to not show up.  Can you call a manager and complain about the no shows?

  • They actually called me back this morning to reschedule. At least they apologized.

I am thinking the distance thing may be an issue. We are only about 20 minutes from town, but people seem to think that that is kind of far. Oh well. It is worth it to me to live out here.

  • I'm going to overlook your crass generalization of "all people in the South" but I think you've had some bad luck. There are people who are good at their jobs and people who suck at their everywhere you go.

  • Really?  You really think that this is a southern thing?  You really think that everywhere else in America has great service except for the south?

    Come on.

  • I don't know about everywhere else in America, but I have never had problems quite like this before. It was not meant to be a serious question. I do in fact realize that crappy customer service can be found all over the world.

I will say that people, in general, are much friendlier and polite down here, which I love! Even the crappy service people were nice, just not very helpful or eager to trek out to my house, I guess. Smile
