I've created a montster...

...and got DH addicted to Whole Foods (bangs head on desk as she looks at the bank statement).

Last week, I had to run to the store quickly to pick up 2 items that I needed for dinner. DH requested some nice tea, and suggested Whole Foods as they have a great selection. WF is only 1.5 miles away, so I said I'd just go there to get the items since I was going to get him tea. He decided to join me. We got my items for dinner, and went to pick out tea. After that, he asked to walk around. We did for a 1/2 an hour!!! He was in amazment of WF and how beautiful everything was. He drooled over their meat selection (he used to work at a butcher shop) and their beer and cheese selection, amongst other things. He's a visual person and fell in love with their presentation of things.

He knows my desire to go green in our groceries, cleaning, etc. so now, he goes there on his own. Yesterday, he spent $25 on Mrs. Meyers cleaner, dish soap, and  local coffee. Today, he spent $7 on cookies and 1/2 and 1/2. He was so excited, but I wanted to tell him "Um....there's a reason why I don't shop there all the time, sweetheart. It's freaking expensive!" I know he means well, but ou bank account may not agree.

  • LOL! It is beautiful! And that's the trap. The thing is, WF isn't necessarily expensive. I can easily get out of there with a good amount of food for $20-30. I have to be careful though! For example their large containers of mixed organic greens are cheaper than at our local regular grocery. I buy their premade pizza crusts -- organic and whole wheat - in the bread section, 2 for $5, way cheaper (and better) than Boboli. The bulk grains are another good deal as are the organic pastas.

What you have to do is be able to see past the pretty!!

  • Aw, that's kind of cute... :) But I know how much my grocery bill goes up when DH is with me, so I can't imagine the financial damage he'd do if we had a WF near us!! Not cute. :0

I agree completely with this...and an FYI, their coupons this month are awesome. I usually don't find too much in them but found a good amount of them are for products we regularly purchase.

  • True...I do try and do my weekly shopping around specials/sales, and this happens at WF, too. Last week, I bought 2 lbs. of organic carrots @ .59/lb....not sure what I'll do with so many carrots, but couldn't beat that price!
