How often do you wash your hair?

Since we're on the showering topic, I'm curious...  I know the F&B posters are less-frequent shampooers, but I'm wondering what the "norm" around Austin is...[Poll]

Re: How often do you wash your hair?

  • After every workout, but if I don't work out one day, I'll skip a day. We have hard water in Georgetown and one side effects is dry skin/scalp, so I can actually skip a day without my hair looking dirty.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Pretty much every day, but If I don't happen to have time for a shower, then I don't get to wash it.

I'm still searching for a new shampoo and conditioner that would allow me to not have to wash it every day...

  • I voted every other day.  If I get a little oily, I just use a bit of baby powder on my hair during the in betweens.  It takes FOREVER (occasionally my hair will still be damp at bed time) for my hair to dry and I dont typically use a hair dryer because im in too much of a rush in the mornings.

  • I used to wash it everyday. Since having Abby, It became every other day. With the addition of Emily I've adopted a "If it ain't broke don't fix it" attitude. Really it's been so cold and dry my hair is good for 3-4 days, especially if I've flat ironed it. I do shower daily ;)

This, I find out that if I wash it too often I tend to have a really dry scalp.  I also have really thick hair and hate having to blow dry and straighten everyday!

  • my hair gets so limp after i wash it that i try to wash it about 3 times a week.  if its looking oily and i don't have time to wash it, i use that dry shampoo which buys me another day.

  • Every hair dresser I've ever seen/known lectures me that I wash my hair too often. They tell me that I need to give it time and my hair will adapt to only being washed every other day or every 3rd day. However, I just can't stand that! My hair is so greasy and gross the 2nd day ... and I never have time to just have greasy hair to let it "get used to" not being washed as often.

My hair is perfectly healthy (sometimes overly so), so I'll keep washing every day.

  • Umm... You meant WASH, not shave, right? Wink

I wash mine every day, unless I am not leaving the house for the day. If I wash mine in the morning, by the end of the next day it will start to smell (at least to me). Plus, I have psoriasis, and it seems to get worse when I don't wash it daily, I think because my scalp gets exfoliated when I wash and scrub.

  • If I wear it natural (curly) everyday because it looks awful after sleeping on it. When I straighten it i can go as long as 4-5 days.
  • Every day, if at all possible.  Most of the time it looks gross if I don't wash it.  However, on the occasions where I wave it out or curl it, I can sometimes wear a snood to bed and it'll keep the curls/waves intact enough to just freshen them and go the next day, plus whatever products I use to set the curls somehow prevent it from getting oily so it will usually look okay the next day.  But I definitely have to use the snood.
  • I'd say probably 5ish times a week.  I wash it after every work out and some weeks I'm better than others.  My hair is naturaly dry so I try not to wash it every day but I do most days
  • CJ....What is a snood?
  • 3-4 times a week. My hair is really dry and I have a ton of it, so I find washing it more than that wreaks havoc on my head.

  • Ditto SLB - my hairdresser always tells me to wash less frequently, but I have to do it every day, especially in the summer when I get sweaty. Ew! Sometimes I will just wet it, but not use shampoo and conditioner. And that's if I am putting it up for the day.

  • Did anyone notice that the poll says "I shave ...."?  Tee hee... I knew what you meant though!

    Hehehe, I didn't even notice!

  • I have to take a shower and wash my hair once a day... otherwise I am just so oily all over.  I'm jealous of people who can go a day or so without washing their hair!
  • I forgot to add that I can't use conditioner in the shower... if I need to de-tangle my hair I have to use that light Pantene spray stuff once I get out of the shower.

I'm intrigued.  What it is a snood?  I have naturally curly hair but hate how it gets unruly after a night's sleep.  I have very dry hair, so I cannot wash it more than 3 times a week....It turns to straw.  I usually have to straighten it so that I can go more days between washing.  But if there is some miracle thing called a snood that would keep my curls intact, that would be amazing!  How have I never heard of such a thing??  Huh?

  • i try to work out every day, so i always wash my hair after working out or getting sweaty. if i didn't work up a sweat but still have some light product in my hair, i'll just rinse but not use shampoo/conditioner. just depends on how gross i feel.

i don't think i could ever go longer than 2 days without washing though. i was sick once and didn't want to take the time to wash my hair and by day 3, it was all matted and greasy. gross.

Someone pointed that out earlier and I still didn't notice.  Embarrassed

  • THis is a snood:

Think: hair net. My college roommate was African-American and used something similar for sleeping to keep her hairstyle intact and from getting fuzzy (if she had braids).
