Ohare/Airport Question...

Hi Ladies,

I am going on vacation next week and departing from Ohare airport.  My flight is at 8:20am.  At what time do u think I should be arriving at the airport?  I want to give myself plenty of time-rather be early.  I havent traveled in a while so Im not really sure whats appropriate time wise these days.

Also, does anyone know how much they are charging for bags now?  Our airline is American Airlines.  I have no clue about this or what kind of procedure it is.

Please respond I would appreciate it!

Re: Ohare/Airport Question...

  • Depending on what day of the week you're departing, plan on being at the airport 1.5-2 hours prior to boarding. You'll most likely end up sitting around for most of that time, but if there is bad weather in your destination, or coming into the city, or a backup into any other major hub, then there will be delays and long lines at O'Hare too.

I believe American charges $25 (?) for each checked bag. If you can get away with carry-ons only, do that. Much easier, although you will have to still concede to the liquids restrictions.

  • Domestic or international flight?  Are you printing boarding passes at home?
  • Also if you are leaving on a Monday AM, allow more time.  It is a heavy at that time.
  • I always give myself 2 hours and have not had a problem. Last time I flew American I was charged $15 a bag. Carry on is a great solution but remember to keep all liquids in a 1 quart bag and they must be 3 oz bottles. (I think I got that right)

    Have a great trip!
