NY Times article on living w/o heat

E and I have been intensely discussing how warm to heat the house lately, so I enjoyed reading this New York Times article about (IMHO seriously crazy and/or super-tough) people who don't heat their homes at all. I am definitely a weakling when it comes to winter and hate the cold. I would happily turn up the heat and wear a sarong if I could afford it.

Re: NY Times article on living w/o heat

  • Having lived without heat - not by choice - I would never do so voluntarily. I would stay in bed as late as possible, go to work, eat as soon as I got home and then get back in bed. I'm sure I was sleeping a good 10-12 hours a night b/c bed was the only warm place in the building. Fortunately I moved at the end of October (this was South Dakota, so October was lots of snow and plenty cold); I can't imagine what it would have been like in January.
