PR jobs / companies?

My younger sister is considering a move to Austin (so, so exciting!)  She's working in PR out in LA and comes highly recommended.  Anyone have any knowledge of job openings or leads I could send her way?

Re: PR jobs / companies?

  • I've seen a few state jobs. In most cases, she's looking for the information specialist job title.
  • Tate Austin Hahn is strictly a public relations/public affairs firm and gets a lot of the big Austin accounts like Mueller, HEB, and Whole Foods.

She might also try something like GSD&M or Milkshake Media, which are advertising agencies, but might have some PR positions.

Also, check the job banks for Communications Director positions. There are a ton of nonprofits here that might find her skills useful.

  • I'm looking for jobs in the same field right now, and it's a really tough market at the moment. A couple of places where I've interviewed so far have said they got 500+ resumes in a week.

However, some companies are always on the lookout for new people and take resumes even if they don't have a job posted at the moment. TateAustinHahn is a good one, and she might also try Elizabeth Christian PR and the Peters Group. I didn't get anywhere with them, but with her experience, she might!

  • good luck to her!

the job market is INSANE right now. seems that there aren't a lot of upper level jobs so all those people are taking the mid level jobs and companies are getting an overqualified person for much less. its quite frustrating.
